Stillwater FishingFish for Rainbow Trout on our North Devon and Somerset Stillwaters.
The stillwaters available in north Devon and Somerset include small stocked waters which are ideal for beginners and larger reservoirs providing more challenging fishing for those with more experience.
The small stillwaters provide an ideal environment to begin fly fishing. They are generally well stocked and fish can be easily reached once the basic casting techniques are quickly mastered. The fish in these waters can range from about two pounds, up to fish well into double figures. The fish stocked are mostly rainbow trout but often some brown trout and variations such as blue trout are also stocked on some fisheries. Many of these stillwater locations produce their own fish for stocking and also supply to restaurants and supermarkets, ensuring that high quality, good eating fish are available
The larger water supply reservoirs provide an ideal location for the fly fisher wishing to combine local knowledge with casting tuition for the longer casts often required to reach the fish in these larger waters. Wistlandpound provides a medium sized water which is fished from the bank while Wimbleball, a larger water, provides the opportunity to fish from either the bank or boat. Wistlandpound and Wimbleball reservoirs both offer a larger water fly fishing experience in an attractive rural setting. The fish in these waters are generally wilder and harder fighting, pound for pound, than those in the smaller waters. |
